We had a day off when Noel & Gillian Humm popped in for a couple of nights

Noel & Gillian have been visiting family and exploring their roots in the UK

We loaded them into the car and headed to Wales for the day. Our planned itinerary had to be changed due to an accident on the motorway, so we checked out the Llangollen Canal and viaduct at Chirk

The Viaduct also has an Aqueduct attached. Narrowboats and trains use it to cross the river below.

From Chirk we travelled on to Llangollen, where we stopped for lunch at the Corn Mill

We headed up the hill behind the town and reconnected with the Llangollen Canal. We could have joined a horsedrawn canal boat cruise but decided to check out the bikes arriving at the 2022 International Harley Davidson Rally (I managed to walk past without taking a single photograph)

From here we continued to Trevor, the village where you can hire a canal boat and cruise across the 125-foot-high Pontycysylite aqueduct over the River Dee.

We left Trevor and headed back to Chirk to visit the castle. This castle was started in 1295 and finished in 1310. It has been in the same family for most of the time since it was built and even though it’s open to the public, the family still live in one of the towers

We headed back to the car through the woods and past a post box still cleared six days each week.

It was a great day with good conpany. Next morning we farewelled the Humm’s as they headed away to Vienna, on the next stage of their journey.
