Canal boating in France

Each dawn is a new beginning

When the opportunity came to cycle the Camino we jumped at it

We had previously cycled the Portuguese Camino back in 2018 and enjoyed the whole experience, so when our time in the UK had come to an end we set our sights on a new challenge. Cycling the 790 km French Camino from St Jean Pied de Port over the Pyrenees into Spain, finishing in Santiago de Compostela.

Every journey has a starting point.

Our starting point was Carcassonne in France where we met up with the Harris’ They flew in from London, we arrived from Manchester.

The idea was to spend a few days on a French canal boat before finding our way to Saint Jean Pied de Port. We had to first take in the sights of Carcassonne.

Carcassonne citadel from our hotel
Citadel under lights
Carcassonne Basilica

We trained from Carcassonne to Castelnaudary, where we had organised a boat for a week on the Canal du Midi.

The locks were loads of fun.
Company was great
3 minute clip of the canals
Canals were beautiful
Sunset
Evenings were calm and clear

We stopped at Toulouse and spent a day in this very beautiful city before heading to Saint Jean pied de Port

Toulouse Monday Market
Saint Jean Pied de Port

All organised with bikes and provisions ready to start………

Cheers
