We left the very pleasant accommodation in Espinho called the ”why Not Guest House” heading to Porto, where we had planned to stay two nights. We made a slight change and decided to bike along the coast road. This gave us not only an extra day in Porto but a spectacular ride as well.
We made it.

This was the amazing view that greeted just as we arrived in Porto. It’s taken from the Cathedral above the Luís I Bridge over the river Douro.
What a beautiful city. So vibrant, noisy, colourful and yet quaint in it’s old worldliness.
The blue Portuguese tiles were everywhere you looked.
We discovered that the week that we arrived was the week celebrating Santa Marinha. We came across a very large parade winding its way through the streets heading to the Church of Santa Marinha. There were about 16 floats with effigies of saints being carried on the shoulders of float bearers. There was a band at the front and another one at the rear. What an amazing spectacle. We went into the Church and the smell of the flowers was intoxicating.
We found the Livraria Lello bookshop that inspired the bookshop in Harry Potter.
The queue was so long we gave it a miss.
Cheers
Great memories re-lived of Porto. It is a wonderful city, and so full of the unexpected!

Fabulous! Great views, and to be able to follow a festival too! Your accommodation looks really good, breakfast…wow! Where was that? We’ve got a place near the river, close to Port tastings, not so far to get home after. 🍷👍

The best place we have stayed was just 3km out of Caminho. It was a boutique hotel called Villa Idalina. Very reasonable.
